It is recognised that SMEs and entrepreneurs will still face a series of challenges to engaging with the research base and advancing their ideas.

Graphene has reached a tipping point and we’re seeing real-world benefits living up to the early excitement of just a few years ago. Collaboration is key, at The University of Manchester we are actively looking to engage with all SMEs to accelerate the step change in graphene’s commercial prospects and to provide support to overcome the obstacles SMEs have previously experienced.

Bridging the gap

Our Bridging the gap programme has been developed to proactively engage Greater Manchester (GM) based SMEs and new ventures to allow them to overcome challenges, and explore and apply graphene and other advanced 2D materials in a wide range of applications and markets.

The project will increasingly make our science, research and innovation excellence (in the form of people, facilities and equipment) more available to SMEs to create and sustain successful commercial and economic outcomes.

Through this project, SMEs will have access to:

• Workshops and events to learn more about graphene and 2D materials.
• Technical support to your business ideas or products.
• Technical and market reports.
• One-to-one support from graphene specialists.
• Support with writing grant proposals.
• Project planning support.
• Access to expertise and facilities at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre to develop a graphene product, technology or process.

A company must be registered in Greater Manchester or base its operations in the Greater Manchester area and meet the below criteria:
